Stay Safe While Vaporizing E-Liquid
Considering the harmful effects of smoking, people have started quitting it altogether, or at least switching to electronic cigarettes. These, also known as e-cigarettes, are battery powered vaporizers that produce vapour resembling smoke. In this way, the user satisfies his craving for smoke without getting exposed to its harmful effects. An e-cigarette has an atomizer that produces smoke by vaporizing a liquid solution know as e-liquid. Today, we are going to talk about these liquid solutions and know more about them.
What e-liquids exactly are?
E-liquids, also known as e-juices, are liquid solutions that produce vapour when heated in an e-cigarette with an atomizer. Major ingredients in these liquids are propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol 400, vegetable glycerine, and sometimes alcohol with extracted or concentrated flavours. Tobacco derived nicotine concentration is also available in the market. Purity, concentration and kind of the chemicals largely depends on the quality of e-liquid you purchase. The e-liquids are sold in the form of pre-filled disposable cartridges or bottles, or in kits for users who want to make their own e-liquids. Components are variable, and users may boost or modify the flavour, concentration and nicotine strength as per their personal preferences. Pre-made e-liquids are also available in different fruit, tobacco and other flavours, and with variable nicotine or even nicotine-free concentrations.
Composition of e-liquids
Commonly, an e-liquid is composed of 5 ingredients:
- Vegetable glycerine: This is the base of the e-juice, commonly serve as the base for many other personal care and food products, including toothpaste.
- Propylene glycol: Mixed with vegetable glycerine, it is a solvent that is responsible for producing vapour clouds while smoking.
- Flavour: Any e-liquid contains 10 to 20% of food grade flavour
- Nicotine: Pharmaceutical grade pure nicotine is used in varying amounts, depending on the strength of e-liquid you are purchasing.
- Distilled water: Sometimes added for dilution
Are they safe?
The very act of burning a real cigarette exposes you to a lot of dangerous materials, that are not present in e-liquid. Real cigarettes contain acetone, methanol, carcinogens, moth repellant, cadmium used in batteries, poisonous gases, plastic materials, industrial cleaners, detergents, radioactive elements, embalming fluid and insecticides. When you vaporize an e-liquid, you are saved from inhaling all these harmful materials and many more. Even if you smoke an e-cigarette in a public place, you do not cause harm to anyone else around you.
